Social and Cultural ProgramCongress Welcome PartyMonday, April 9, 2007, which is an Easter holiday in Austria, the Congress starts with tutorials and registration. In the evening from 19:00 - 20:00 all attendees and their registered accompanying persons are invited to join the come together party in the Ceremonial Hall of the historical main building of the Vienna University of Technology. Complementary snacks and drinks will be offered and Viennese music players will accompany the welcome event.
Congress ConcertThere is a special connection between the Vienna University of Technology and music. At the location of the TU Freihaus, where the ICU takes place, there was the "Royal and Imperial private theatre on the Wieden" from 1785 to 1809. The opera "Magic Flute" by W. A. Mozart was performed here first in 1791 and was repeated 223 times. Johann Strauß Jr. was a student of the commercial faculty of the Vienna University of Technology, but he turned to music already after 2 years. Thus, he can be regarded as the most famous dropout student of the Vienna University of Technology (the former Royal and Imperial Polytechnic Institute). In acknowledging this special connection between the Vienna University of Technology and music, Tuesday, April 10, 2007, in the evening from 19:00 - 20:30, a special concert will be performed in the main lecture hall (HS1, where also the opening ceremony takes place). Performers are the ladies choir Ensemble-Indigo (Conductor: Christian Fraberger) together with the Student Orchestra of the Vienna University of Technology (Conductor Andreas Fellner).
The highlights of the concert program will be very rarely performed vocal versions of Viennese Waltzes and Polkas, e.g.:
